Nikko Day Lilies (Hemerocallis dumortierii)

Nikko day lilies grow in mountainous areas and sub-alpine meadows. The bloom of each individual flower lasts only one day and together those flowers create the image of a yellow carpet.

The flower diameter is 10 to 17 cm, and decorative flower is blue to light blue with a diameter of 2.5 to 4 cm. This hydrangea is distributed along the Sea of Japan side from Hokkaido to Kyushu, and is commonly seen in Urabandai.

This giant lily blooms in the western part of the Kanto region and has several flowers on each plant, although the subspecies of giant lily in this area may have more than 20 flowers. There are about 500 seeds in each flower.

The flowers grow to a diameter of 1 to 2 cm and the tree grows to a height of about 20 to 50 cm. The flowers are pale pink, and the petal curl is very splendid. This tree is used to make a lye.

The willow herb is a perennial plant which grows to a height of 15 cm to 90 cm in the wetlands of hilly areas. Vermiform hair grows on its stems, and the leaves and stem turn red in autumn.

Ezorindo Gentian (Gentiana triflora var. japonica)

The roots of the ezorindo gentian are bitter and have some medicinal benefits. It is used for treating gastrointestinal disorders such as indigestion and loss of appetite.

Hotsutsuji shrub (Elliottia paniculata)

The Hotsutsuji leaf small shrub of the azalea family is commonly found in sunny mountainous areas throughout Japan in southern Hokkaido.

Double-Spotted Swertia (Swertia bimaculate)
